The award recognizes the best literary works in seven Indian languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Bengali, and Marathi. Each recipient will receive a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, an initiative created by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to counter what he described as political interference in the Sahitya Akademi.
